What to expect

Dog Walks

Your pooch will be picked up and transported in our van that has been fully customised to transport your pets as safely as possible. We take our walks in large open areas where they have plenty of space to explore and play in complete safety. Walks are up to an hour and muddy dogs will be rinsed off before being returned home. There may also be lots of treats handed out! We are insured to walk up to 6 dogs at a time and we would never walk more than that. Your pups safety is of paramount importance to us so they are in good hands.

Pet Visits

We will spend half an hour caring for your pets while you are out or away on holiday. This may involve cleaning up after them (litter trays, hutches, cages or accidents on the carpet!), making sure they are fed and watered and then spending the rest of the time playing or making a fuss of them. Due to me being a big softy, I can't look after spiders but most other creatures are catered for.

Home Boarding for Dogs

Going away and worried that your dog will be too stressed out at a kennels? Would you like to go away knowing they will be loved and looked after in a home away from home? Home boarding is the answer. Your pup will be treated like our own (spoilt rotten) while you are away. Walked for at least an hour a day they can then relax on whichever piece of the furniture they like the look of most.

Home boarding bookings are subject to a 50% non-refundable deposit to secure the dates with the outstanding balance paid before we take in your dog.

On the 5th December, 2015, my world changed for ever when we adopted a 2 year old (we think) Staffordshire Bull Terrier called Rosie. I had finally given in after 12 years of my wife asking if we could have a dog. I had held out for so long because we both worked full time and I didn't think it was fair leaving a dog at home on it's own all day but my wife has just started a new job that was local enough that popping home at lunchtime was easy enough. I hadn't had a dog since leaving home and I'd forgotten how great it is to have one around the house. She reignited my love for dogs and got me off of the couch taking her for walks locally on weekdays and then driving somewhere a bit different at the weekends.
After the premature death of a dear family friend I started to re-evaluate my life. I hated my job and the company I worked for and needed to get out. I wanted to do something I loved and when I suggested to my wife that I wanted to give up a 20 year career in IT sales to walk dogs for a living she crazily said yes. So on the 1st April, 2017 I started Dogs About Town. We had one customer, Winston, a 9 year old King Charles Spaniel who I was walking 3 times a week. 2 weeks later, Kip came on board, closely followed by Penny (who we still walk) and things started to pick up. I took a part time job stacking shelves in a supermarket for 6 months until November that year when I had taken on enough customers to go full time and we have never looked back.

Testimonials

  • Jim has been walking my two intact German Short Haired Pointer boys for over 3 years now. I couldn’t be happier with Dogs About Town. Jim is reliable, confident and great value. The dogs get a walk with him each week day, meaning our walks with the dogs are just for pleasure, rather than walks they need. I’ve always appreciated that Jim doesn’t take too many dogs at a time so I am reassured that each dog is getting the attention they need.

One of my boys is a bit of a nervous nelly and the other is a complete loon, but both obviously have a wonderful time on their walks with Jim! When Jim first started walking the boys, Cooper was just a puppy. I’ve always felt pleased that Jim really takes account of which dogs are mixing together so everyone has a great time.

And we love the photos on Facebook at the end of each week of all the adventures too!!

  • Jim at Dogs About Town has been walking our crazy working Cocker Spaniel since he was a puppy. Wilson is such a social dog and loves being part of the pack and this really is a testament to Jim. Jim is observant of Wilson's health and temperament as well as supporting us to teach Wilson good behaviour. I cannot recommend Dogs About Town highly enough for work his work with our boy! Get booked in, no hesitation needed!!!

  • I wouldn't have any other dog walker than Jim at Dogs About Town. He is trustworthy, caring, knowledgeable about dogs and always goes the extra mile to help when I need it. Missy adores going out with Jim.

  • When we moved to the area we came across Dogs About Town page online and we are so glad we did! We were looking for someone who would tire our Labrador (Vinnie) out - 4 years on and he’s always well exercised and tired out! Jim came to meet us and Vinnie at home to introduce himself and get to know what would suit our lifestyles. I felt Vinnie was in safe hands from the start, Jim walked him on the lead whilst they got to know each other and now he spends an hour running round with his mates pestering anyone he can to throw a stick!! They go to lots of local areas and it’s always an hours exercise regardless of travel. I would encourage everyone to read Jim’s story of his dog walking journey, when he first started he was passionate to start his business after taking in a rescue dog and worked hard along side his other job, I remember when Jim messaged me to say he had now gone full time - such an amazing achievement! It is always clear how much Jim truly loves his work. Jim is flexible around work and life commitments for us and Vinnie is his number one fan! Thanks Jim!

  • Jim has been walking Chester since he was 14 weeks old and has become an integral part of Chester's world. He adores his time with Jim and the pack and we trust Jim 100%. Chester always arrives back clean, happy and tired - perfect! Choosing Dogs About Town was the best decision we made when it came to Chester's upkeep and care. We couldn't ask for a more friendly, professional and caring man who has become a friend to all of us.
